About

Dear Reader,

authorLook! My head is floating!

So, about me. Like most writers, I’ve always loved to write. But even more importantly, I’ve always loved to read. Early on, I gravitated to sci-fi and fantasy, as well as historical fiction. I also love the sparser forms of poetry and prose. I’mĀ inspired by great songwriting.

My other great love is the Web. I discovered it in 1995 and haven’t left it alone since. I love the creative and technical marriage the Web offers. I have a fairly even balance of the two, so it’s been a great relationship. Over the years, while working on sites, I began to imagine the future of online communities. It is really from this seed that the MindsBase universe grew. The seed grew into such a large idea that I could no longer enjoy being a Web professional. I had to be a writer.

Meanwhile, I left the urban/suburban life for a rural community. It’s been fourteen years now, and I love living closer to nature. I love the outdoors — give me a plank and a bit of water and I’m in my own personal heaven. Surfing, windsurfing, snowboarding — but it’s when I started kiteboarding that I thought, this has got to be in a book. Hence, the hybrid sport of Pilaqua exists in MindsBase.

When I was really young, my friends and I would imagine ourselves in 3D mazes. The “guider” would, of course, guide the “walker” up, down, left and right through completely nonexistant forth-rights and meanders, up ladders, down fireman poles, past monsters and evil qweens. I can still see the mental images of those mazes. When I created Mindsbase, I knew there had to be a Maze Design class.

So when people say, “write what you know,” I didn’t really take it to the letter. Instead, I write what I imagine. I write what I’d like to know. What I’d like to do. What I wish the world offered and what I wish it was like. That’s what makes writing fun for me. If I wrote what I already knew, I’d be too bored to enjoy my own words.

Enjoyment — that’s what it’s really about, isn’t it?

Happy reading and happy writing,

Amber Le Rose
