MindsBase Book 1: The Neverending Maize

Unfortunately, MindsBase is just as messed up as day life. Aegean uncovers the tawdry underbelly of MindsBase on the day Ruby first logs on, so it’s too late for both of them. No one ever quits MindsBase.

Now, a growing body of malcontents threatens to destroy MindsBase…but how? With the weaponized programs called aegs? With rogue creature programs called progs? Or by using the very kids who thought they were protecting MindsBase?

All Ruby wanted was a normal life. Instead, she’s got two lives, and neither qualifies. Being freed from her body each night cracks Ruby’s stony exterior, and her presence lights a fire under easy-going Aegean. They’ll both never be normal again. But what’s so great about normal?

These are either finished stories or stories in early stages of development. This list is mostly for Amber’s quick reference.

The Enchantress

is the tragic story of young lovers who are accosted one night by a vengeful enchantress, who casts a spell on the young maiden that causes her to forget her lover, and such will be her confusion and despair that she is destined by the spell to take her own life on the day their unborn child turns seven. Our hero, the young man, must stop the spell or the enchantress, or both, before that fateful day. This one may end up as urban fantasy rather than medieval.

Nova the Moonshipper

is the romantic adventure story of a seventeen-year-old girl who escapes an unsatisfying life and a smothering boyfriend by joining a starship crew — only to find that the boyfriend has followed her onboard. Funny how problems follow you until you take care of them.

Trading Favors

is about a young woman on a cold-weather planet who, instead of trading furs, makes her living off the debts of those who have needed favors from her network. Stakes are ever-higher and if she doesn’t keep balance, it’s not just her livelihood that will suffer.

The Stairs

is a dark(ish) fantasy about a young man who falls through a dark magic mist in his local wood to find a near-endless procession of staircases, each leading to another world, bottoming out at the home of a not-very-nice demon.

Snap! Goes the Gator Mouth

This picture book is about a little girl’s day where everyone seems to have turned into a snapping alligator. It’s a story that reminds kids that they aren’t to blame for the moods of others, but they may still have the power to change them.

Puffball, Hikol and Cheesy

This early chapter book is a magical story about what happens when three siblings combine a little magic ditch water with their well-loved toys.
